Waterlilies
concept: julia and sierra hamill
designer/seamstress: rachel murphy

Waterlilies
is a one-off, original design Irish dance dress from Silverlode Needlecraft.
The base fabric is a dark purple-indigo metallic silk, and the appliqué consists
of various metallic fabrics (lames, brocades, glitterdots) in shades of
purple/lavender, lime and aqua green, with touches of fuchsia and
sapphire/turquoise. The embroidery is all freehand machine work using a satin
stitch, and in the same metallic colors. The dress is accented with Swarovski
(genuine Austrian) crystals in shades of pale green, fuchsia, and
indigo-heliotrope.
The inspiration of
Waterlilies came during a visit to an art museum and seeing one of Claude
Monet’s many paintings on the theme, so we tried to utilize the same color
scheme of the purple/green/whitish/fuchsia, with a touch of the
sapphire/turquoise that one sees predominant in his other paintings.
Waterlilies
was completed in February, 2007.
